PENANG, 16 December – Lifestyle property developer Eastern & Oriental Berhad (E&O) continues to be a part of the Chinese New Year festive celebration in Penang for the eleventh consecutive year.
This time, E&O is the main sponsor contributing RM200,000 to the state government’s Penang Chinese New Year Lantern 2017 event held in conjunction with the Lunar new year celebrations. The highlight will be a spectacular display of lanterns in different thematic designs at Dewan Sri Pinang from Jan 26 to Feb 26 for public viewing. Admission is free.
During a mock cheque presentation ceremony officiated by YAB Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng today, E&O group corporate strategy director Lyn Chai said it was an honour for the Group to continue its long-standing commitment to supporting such socio-cultural festivals in Penang. “We expect this year’s luminescent, beautifully designed lanterns to draw the same overwhelming public response like they did at last year’s event.
“E&O is extremely honoured to be part of this meaningful event which showcases the rich culture and heritage of George Town. “Our participation underscores E&O’s deep connection with the past, present and future of Penang — as custodian of the over century-old heritage landmark E&O Hotel, to the development of the award-winning master planned Seri Tanjung Pinang seafront community, as well as looking ahead to Seri Tanjung Pinang Phase 2,” she said.
E&O group hospitality and lifestyle director Michael Saxon added, “Penang makes a great melting pot for modernity and tradition as it sustains the rich values of heritage with community-centric activities such as the forthcoming Penang Chinese New Year Lanterns 2017 event.” Also, present at the cheque presentation ceremony was Tanjung MP Ng Wei Aik.
