Dreams come true for 10 families as they were handed keys to new home by Mah Sing Foundation through Baiti Jannati @ Wilayah Persekutuan Programme

15 October 2017, Kuala Lumpur – While we indulge on simple luxuries, some families can barely put food on the table let alone have a place to call home. For many years these destitute families have been enduring harsh living conditions as they fall under the low income category mired in poverty. Deepavali came early for 10 families as they were handed the mock keys to their new home through Baiti Jannati @ Wilayah Persekutuan Programme.

10 families received the keys to their new home in a ceremony that took place at the Perumahan Awam Desa Rejang and Projek Perumahan Rakyat Seri Pantai yesterday. Minister of Federal Territories YB Datuk Seri Utama Tengku Adnan bin Tengku Mansor, Deputy Minister of Federal Territories, YB Dato’ Dr. Loga Bala Mohan, and Badan Amal Kasih Ibu Wilayah Persekutuan’s President Datin Seri Utama Datuk Anggraini Sentiyaki together with Mah Sing Group Berhad’s Chief Executive Officer, Datuk Ho Hon Sang handed over the mock keys to the recipients.

Mah Sing’s Chief Executive Officer, Datuk Ho Hon Sang said, “We are very happy that Mah Sing Foundation’s contribution will provide a significant impact to the lives of many deserving families in Kuala Lumpur. We have ensured that 10 destitute families will have a roof above their heads just in time to celebrate Deepavali. We will always try our best to contribute by taking proactive approach to support the government and charity organisations such as Badan Amal Kasih Ibu Wilayah Persekutuan (WP) in their efforts to eradicate poverty.”

The entourage of dignitaries visited 10 original houses of these poor families at different locations within KL City. The mock key handover was kept as a special secret as none of them were informed that each family will be receiving a new and fully furnished home. The joy giving continued with money packets and hampers distributed by the Ministry of Federal Territories while MSF handed over goodie bags filled with basic necessities for the upcoming festival.

The recipients of Baiti Jannati @ Wilayah Persekutuan Programme were selected from among those who have disabled children, chronic illnesses, deceased husbands or wives, child dependents, those who have contributed to the country, those who have children who excels in their studies and those who have been renting Projek Perumahan Rakyat and Perumahan Awam Dewan Bandaraya Kuala Lumpur houses more than 5 years.

Building the community by enhancing the lives of the less fortunate
The Baiti Jannati @ Wilayah Persekutuan programme is an initiative from Badan Amal Kasih Ibu WP. Baiti Jannati@Wilayah Persekutuan programme kick-started a few months back in Ramadhan, very aptly as it is the holy month of giving. With the objective to elevate the standard of living of the less fortunate, the programme has previously helped to improve the lives of 26 disadvantaged families.

Earlier this week, Mah Sing Foundation contributed a total of RM1million to Badan Amal Kasih Ibu Wilayah Persekutuan in support of the Baiti Jannati@Wilayah Persekutuan Programme to refurbish their homes with necessary living essentials and assist in settling the outstanding housing loans of selected families living in Projek Perumahan Rakyat dan Perumahan Awam Dewan Bandaraya Kuala Lumpur.

Mah Sing’s Group Managing Director, Tan Sri Dato’ Sri Leong Hoy Kum said, “As a developer, Mah Sing aims to build high quality, well-planned homes below RM500,000 for buyers. Out of 34 projects we have in the central region, nine of them are in Kuala Lumpur. On top of building our business in Kuala Lumpur, we will continuously contribute to build the community by enhancing the lives of the less privileged.”

“Reinvent Spaces, Enhance Life- our tagline embodies the affirmation to enhance the lives of others. It also reflects our determination to cultivate a culture of moral values and humanity through Mah Sing Foundation,” added Datuk Ho Hon Sang.

According to the Department of Statistics Malaysia, Wilayah Persekutuan Kuala Lumpur has shown tremendous progress in poverty alleviation. The incidence of poverty has improved from 0.6 percent in 2014 to 0.4 percent in 2016.

Minister of Federal Territories, Yang Berhormat Datuk Seri Utama Tengku Adnan said, “We believe the Baiti Jannati@Wilayah Persekutuan Programme is a very good project that will benefit the less fortunate living within Wilayah Persekutuan Kuala Lumpur. It will lessen their worries about having proper accommodations, thus enabling them to focus on other things which will help to improve their lives.”

President of Badan Amal Kasih Ibu WP, Datin Seri Utama Datuk Anggraini Sentiyaki said, “To date, the programme has helped refurbished and handed over more than 26 homes in collaboration with Ministry Of Federal Territories, DBKL and also Yayasan Wilayah Persekutuan.
