Contractors Failing To Complete Public Housing In Pulau Redang Given Ultimatum

SETIU, 5 June: Contractors given the responsibility to build affordable housing for residents in Pulau Redang were issued a warning to complete their projects on time or face the projects being handed over to others.

Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Ahmad Razif Abd Rahman said the ultimatum was given following a contractor’s failure to complete houses during the time frame promised and for delaying up to two years.

He said a firm stand must be taken for the welfare of the residents of Pulau Redang who have waited long and many of the second generation still do not have homes because of the delay.

“The affordable housing project is expected to be fully completed by July 31, 2017. This was the promise given by the earlier contractor and the state government will try to get all the approvals as soon as possible to enable us to hand over the houses.

“The housing project has four blocks totalling 106 units with other facilities including a futsal hall and a multipurpose hall. The current cost of the project is RM28.6 million,” he told reporters after visiting the housing project site in Pulau Redang.

Ahmad Razif said to this point, the contractor has been charged Liquidated Ascertained Damage for being late for 613 days which reached a total of RM3.2 million following a fine of RM5,166 per day.
