November 18, KUALA LUMPUR – Marrying its commitment towards sustainable living with its focus on education, Sunsuria Berhad (Sunsuria) recently played host to the inaugural Shark Hero Conservation Run 2017 (SHCR17) on November 18 at the Celebration Centre in Sunsuria City.
Organised by Acexelent Sdn Bhd in support of Shark Savers Malaysia and WWF Malaysia, the family-oriented event attracted more than 5,500 people.
Sunsuria was the venue sponsor for the event, which aimed to raise public awareness towards the role of sharks in the marine ecosystem and to advocate for shark conservation.
For each registered participant, RM5 was donated to Shark Savers Malaysia.
The 4KM family-themed Fun Run kicked off at 5pm, with Shark Savers Malaysia volunteers dressed in shark suits adding merriment to the race.
The SHCR17 event also featured an exhibition to educate participants on the importance of sharks in the ocean and how to consume seafood sustainably.
Participants exercised their creativity by painting a 7-foot long shark sculptures sponsored by Sunsuria City that was constructed by the Malaysia Institute of Art using recycled materials.
The event, which ran from 4pm to 9pm, had a carnival-like atmosphere with a magic show, game booths, photo booths, food trucks and live music performances in Celebration Centre, Sunsuria City.
In conjunction with SHCR17, corporate figures, entrepreneurs and celebrities signed pledges to avoid endorsing shark products in their personal and professional capacities.
“Sunsuria City is designed and built around the core principles of ‘Smart, Livable and Sustainable’ and we are determined to infuse these elements into everything that we do. We are delighted to be the venue sponsor of Shark Hero Run 2017, as we continue our quest for a more sustainable township. This is just the beginning of more wildlife conservation initiatives that will continue to enhance our SLS value proposition,” said Simon Kwan, Senior Director of Sales, Marketing & Operations of Sunsuria.
Besides being home to Xiamen University Malaysia and in future, SJK (C) Sunsuria, the theme of knowledge figures strongly across Sunsuria City and educational initiatives such as SHCR17 are consistent with one of the township’s positioning as an educational hub that inspires learning and creativity.
