23 October, KUALA LUMPUR – The Communications and Multimedia Consumer Forum of Malaysia (CFM) is urging consumers to fully understand the terms and conditions determining the fixed broadband price reduction proclaimed recently.

Through the initiative of the Communications and Multimedia Minister, Gobind Singh Deo, the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) announced that broadband pricing has been lowered by up to 56 per cent.

Currently four service providers are offering the cheaper price: Celcom, Maxis, TIME and TM.

“The revision of the broadband price is something new, but consumers are not getting enough information,” said CFM chairman Mohamad Yusrizal Yusoff in a statement.

The statement added that the organisation is receiving queries and complaints via social media on insufficient information about price, speed and other relevant details.

Mohamad Yusrizal said certain packages come with contract extensions and telco subscribers need to contact their service providers for clarification.

In brief, however, Celcom started offering the new fixed line broadband price to subscribers in Sabah since Sept 16, Maxis to customers who’ve subscribed to a new contract since Sept 13, TIME since Oct 7 and TM (Unifi Basic and 100mbps) since July 12.

Celcom is not offering a discount to customers who do not not upgrade to a new speed, whereas Maxis is offering a price reduction to those who are not keen to upgrade.

TIME says customers can maintain their speed at a cheaper new price, while TM will upgrade customers to the new speed automatically.
