PETALING JAYA, 15 May: Bank Negara Malaysia (BNM) maintained the Overnight Policy Rate (OPR) at 3% at its Monetary Policy Committee (MPC) meeting last Friday.
The central bank said in a statement that at the current level, the stance of monetary policy is accommodative and supportive of economic activity.
“The MPC will continue to assess the balance of risks surrounding the outlook for domestic growth and inflation.”
MIDF Research expects BNM to keep OPR unchanged for the rest of the year as solid performance in the domestic economy coupled with strengthening global demand should bode well for domestic economic growth.
“We are of the opinion that BNM will continue with its accommodative monetary stance to support domestic economic activity,” it said.
