20 December, KLANG – Some 104 asnaf (disadvantaged) individuals have received help from the Selangor Zakat Board (LZS) to buy a home worth between RM45,000 and RM50,000 via an allocation estimated around RM5 million.

The aid was given in a ceremony today attended by LZS chief administrative officer, Abdul Basith Hamid, and Klang Municipal Council (MPK) president, Datuk Mohamad Yasid Bidin.

It is meant for those who have been renting for a long time and/or are having trouble with their home loan, Abdul Basith said.

Based on our survey, the poor in the city have to pay between RM800 and RM1,000 in rent when their income is minuscule. After the deduction, little is left for anything else.

Many, too, owe rent and payment to the bank, and this state of affairs can affect one emotionally. We hope we’re helping them in some way, he said.

LZS is collaborating with MPK and the Selangor Housing and Property Board to help the asnaf individuals buy the low-cost flats in Klang, Petaling, Hulu Langat and Gombak.

We’re selling the units to LZS at a big discount. The original price per unit is RM75,000, but now it is RM45,000. LZS is also settling the arrears owed to MPK by the recipients, said Mohamad Yasid.

In the same ceremony, LZS partnered the Selangor Fisheries Development Board in giving capital assistance in the form of fishing equipment to 252 asnaf through an allocation of RM756,000.
