Additional RM2 million for PPRT, home improvements in Sabah

23 July, KOTA KINABALU – The Federal government will add RM2 million to the allocation for the poor peoples housing project (PPRT) and to improve the publics homes in Sabah this year. Rural Development Minister Rina Harun said this brings this years allocation for this purpose to RM20 million from the original RM18 million

“Even though there are constraints on the country’s finances, we need to balance the financial situation with the needs of the people.

In fact, there are some development projects which will be continued as what is important is to give priority to the urgent needs of the people such as PPRT, water and electricity supply, and highways, she told reporters after paying a courtesy visit to Sabah Chief Minister Datuk Seri Mohd Shafie Apdal here today.

Also present was Sabah Rural Development Minister Ewon Benedick.

Previously, through the Rural and Regional Development Ministry, the federal government had allocated RM66 million to the PPRT and improving homes in Sabah, of which RM48 had been utilised.

Meanwhile, Mohd Shafie welcomed the collaboration between the Federal Ministry of Rural Development and the state government through the Sabah Ministry of Rural Development.

He said the state government supported the collaboration to ensure that the interests of the people in the state, especially those in rural areas, were always prioritised.
