661 Chapel St Soars to the Top in Australian First for Gamuda Land

Gamuda Land witnessed the topping out of its maiden development in Melbourne, Australia, marking a milestone for the developer as construction reaches the final level of the 31st floor signifying the near completion of 661 Chapel St in South Yarra.

“As a developer, we create places that people will call home, want to be a part of, grow up and grow old in. The planning and architectural design of our developments promote connectivity so that residents can truly get to know their neighbours,” said Ngan Chee Meng, Chief Operating Officer of Gamuda Land.

“To make the development work, we need to get the places right. So we not only think of the home place, we think of the work place, wellness place, gathering place and leisure place. These elements are harmoniously brought together to meet the needs of the community.”

“With 661 Chapel St, our aim is to create a vertical community where residents have a strong sense of belonging. Being part of a close-knit community is important, therefore, the aspect of community living is central to our design philosophy with the creation of many ‘gathering places’ that encourage our residents to come together interact and connect with one another. This differentiates 661 Chapel St from other developments in the area.”

These include the 25-metre cantilevered swimming pool over Chapel Street, a feat never before seen in Melbourne’s street of style; lounges with fireplaces and private dining rooms for parties or meetings; a wine room; a grand library, outdoor gardens, barbeque areas and more.

“One of the key considerations when we decided to embark on this site is the location. Being on Chapel Street itself, it is the centre of Melbourne’s premier fashion, food and arts destination; with the Yarra river and parks just a stroll away; public transport right at your doorstep and the adjacent heritage-listed Melbourne High School in front. This is a location that can’t be beat,” Ngan explained.

661 Chapel St is also blessed to be able to enjoy the view of the city and river that can never be built out, as it fronts the heritage-listed Melbourne High School. Incorporated into the design was the ascension of the base that provides a view of Chapel Street’s landscape, restaurants and the Yarra River from the sixth floor. Ngan said the topping out of 661 Chapel St is a proud moment for the company.

“661 Chapel St has been a good experience for us in Australia. The support and commitment of our business partners, suppliers and consultants have been tremendous as today 661 Chapel St is in fact 6 weeks ahead of our schedule,” he enthused.

With three generations of family commitment and over 65 years of building experience, Crema Constructions was the natural choice to manage the build of the $157 million residential tower.

“It has been a privilege to be a part of the team delivering the 661 Chapel St development. This quality building will contribute to the Melbourne skyline for decades to come,” said Nicholas Crema, Director of Crema Constructions.

“661 Chapel St was a project that we identified early on as one that Crema had to put its name to. An example of sleek design and good quality that resonates with the ethos of the Crema Constructions brand.”

The recent launch of the Privee Collection marks the final release of available residences at 661 Chapel St. The opportunity to secure a unit and be a part of this close-knit community is limited. Purposely held off the market until now, these select two and three-bedroom apartments have floorplans tailored to maximise never-to-be built out views.
An onsite prototype has been created to showcase living at 661 Chapel St. Interested buyers have the chance to experience first-hand, this refined, authentic and impeccably-designed home.
