Impiana KLCC garners good response for new rooms
May 21, 2012
KUALA LUMPUR: Impiana KLCC Hotel will meet its 2013 room rate projection a year earlier than scheduled, following better than anticipated demand for its new rooms.

The hotel, which will launch its RM100 million new wing today, has added 187 club rooms and suites to its existing room inventory of 335.

Located a stone's throw from the Petronas Twin Towers, the hotel has projected to finish 2012 at an average room rate (ARR) of over RM300.

Its general manager, Gerard Sta Maria, said that the hotel had initially expected to cross the ARR of RM300 only in 2013 after gradually increasing it from RM260 in 2011.

The hotel's forward-booking is encouraging. For instance, it is fully booked from June 1 this year for the World Gas Conference which will be held from June 4 to June 7 at the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre.

Impiana KLCC expects that it will be able to fill its rooms each time there is major event at the convention centre.

Two upcoming events include The Asean Sleep Congress, which will be held from June 27 to 30 and the APHM International Healthcare Conference & Exhibition 2012, to be held from July 17 to 19.

Also working in the hotel's favour is the air-conditioned bridge which connects to the KL Convention Centre and to the Bukit Bintang area.

The hotel, which closed 2011 with a 60 per cent business crowd and 40 per cent leisure, is this year looking forward to growing its business crowd to 70 per cent.

"We want to set the benchmark for four-star business class hotels," Sta Maria said, adding that this would include service standards, the product and better yields.

Impiana KLCC is owned by Heritage Lane Sdn Bhd and managed by Impiana Hotels & Resorts (IHR). Heritage Lane is wholly-owned subsidiary of KLCC (Holdings) Sdn Bhd.

The initial investment into the hotel was RM200 million, including RM55 million paid for the takeover of the previous Holiday Inn On the park. The first phase opened in late 2005.

"With the extension, the product as a hotel is now complete," Gerard said.

The extension includes a club lounge which can seat 80 people, a roof top restaurant and bar (scheduled to open in August) as well as a club gym which covers the entire 25th floor.
