3 ways to look at Medini

3 ways to look at Medini

Medini Iskandar Malaysia (MIM) shared with iProperty.com Malaysia it plans to transform Medini into Johor’s modern commercial business district and a livable, efficient as well as a safe place for people to call home.

1.    MIM has just gone through a rebranding exercise. What was the purpose behind this rebranding exercise?

In 2013, MIM transitioned from being a master planner and infrastructure manager for the 2,230-acre township to a property developer and township management service provider. With this transition, it was necessary for MIM to revisit its brand positioning to reflect the enhanced role that MIM now assume. It was an exercise to redefine the positioning of MIM and Medini.

As a destination, we aspire to build Medini as the ‘Icon of Future City Living’, a township that harmoniously aligns the work, play, learn and live element within a space that values time, nature and sustainability. As a company, to realize the destination’s aspiration, MIM identifies itself as the inclusive master developer and city builder.

In 2018, two of our high rise office towers will be completed and we will also witness the completion of few other projects carried out by our developer partners. On this note, MIM is focused on building and positioning Medini as the Central Business District (CBD) of Iskandar Puteri. The CBD element is one of our critical building blocks that will help realize the destination’s aspiration.

2.    What are MIM’s big plans to transform Medini into Johor’s modern commercial business district and also as a pioneer smart city?

One of the plans is for MIM to focus on developing office buildings that complements and acts as a catalyst for the developments carried out by our plot developers who  primarily focus on residential projects. Concurrently, MIM also capitalizes on the breadth and wealth of knowledge and experience in smart city development of our  shareholder, Mitsui & Co. Ltd.The Smart City development vision elements cover four areas:

A)   LIVABLE: High quality of life, including attractive amenities, convenient services and responsive public services

B)   CONNECTED: Systems and networks that are physically, socially and technologically designed to support a more efficient, effective and enjoyable way of life

C)   EFFICIENT: High quality infrastructure and services that sets it apart from other locations in Johor

D)   SAFE: People and properties are secured and comfortable, day and night

By emphasising on these four elements, it ensures that there is a balanced eco-system within Medini that will secure its position as a smart and sustainable CBD of Iskandar Puteri.

3.  Please do share with us the milestones achieved in Medini since its inception?

Since its inception in 2007, Medini has achieved various milestone that cements our positioning as the CBD of Iskandar Puteri.

Between then and now, our developer partners have been busy launching and promoting their projects. The well-known developers are Eastern & Oriental Group (E&O), BCB Berhad, Pulau Indah Ventures, CI Medini, WCT, Sunway Iskandar, UMLand, Mah Sing and Zhuoyuan Iskandar.

MIM built its first purpose-built office building, Medini 6 in 2014 which we then moved into the following year and it has been the headquarters of MIM ever since. Medini 6 has notable tenants such as Huawei, i2M Ventures and Intelsec (a subsidiary company of Telekom Malaysia). Our second office building, Medini 7 is now open and soon to be occupied by Frost & Sullivan. The first high-rise office building Medini 9, and another high-rise Medini 10 are expected to be completed in 2018.

There are other success stories, which include the signing of MIM’s two joint venture partnerships. Late last year, through our wholly-owned subsidiary Township Management Services Sdn bhd (TMSSB), MIM signed a JV partnership with Intelsec Sdn Bhd (a wholly-owned company of Telekom Malaysia Berhad) where the joint venture company will provide information communication technology related services. The second JV partnership was signed with UEM Sunrise Edgenta early this year, where the joint venture company will provide facilities, estate, building and security management.

2015 was also a year which saw the opening of Gleneagles Medini, Somerset Medini and CIMB Training Academy.
