test

2 March, ALOR SETAR – Some 2,000 units of the People’s Housing Programme (PPR) will be built in Kedah this year at a cost of RM450 million, said Urban Wellbeing, Housing and Local Government Minister Tan Sri Noh Omar.

The houses will be built in three locations, 1,000 units in Langkawi, 500 units in the Bakar Bata state constituency here and 500 units in Baling, he said.

We will start construction in the near future after the actual locations are identified, he told reporters after visiting the Seri Gemilang Flats Public Housing Programme here today. Also present was Kedah Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Ahmad Bashah Md Hanipah

In the meantime, Noh said, the ministry had agreed that the units of the Public Housing Programme be sold to tenants through the rent-and-own scheme with the approval of the state government to enable the tenants to own their own homes at lower prices. At present, the tenants have to pay a monthly rent of RM70.

Yesterday, the PPR Harmoni Transit Homes in Sungai Petani became the first to be offered to tenants through a rent-and-own scheme at a price of RM35,000 per unit.
