Penang, 7 November 2015 – Eastern & Oriental Berhad (E&O) brought cheer to 140 school children today by presenting them with sets of school necessities worth RM150 each.
An annual practice by E&O since 2013, this year’s presentation event is being held in conjunction with Children’s Day. With the new school year just around the corner, this was a timely contribution for the young students.
Eastern & Oriental Property (Penang) Sdn Bhd general manager Zawawi Yusop said E&O’s contribution of school necessities is part of the company’s efforts to uphold the interest of the communities it operates in.
“In engaging the communities where we operate in, there is no better place to start than with the welfare of these school children, our future generation.
“This year’s event is made even more meaningful as it coincides with Children’s Day, a special day to commemorate our young ones,” said Zawawi.
The students benefiting from this contribution hailed from SK Tanjung Tokong, SJK (C) Hun Bin, SJK (T) Azad, Tadis Ar- Rasyidin and those residing within the Tanjung Tokong vicinity.
Each child received a school bag, school uniform, a pair of school shoes and socks. On hand to present the school necessities were Bukit Bendera MP Zairil Khir Johari, Pulau Tikus assemblyman Yap Soo Huey, Seri Tanjung Pinang community development and security committee (JKKK) chairman Mansor Mohamad. Zairil commended the Group for taking the initiative and urged other corporate companies to follow suit.
“The onus is upon us to provide our children with the opportunities and support today to achieve their potential later. I would like to commend E&O for contributing to this cause and for going the extra mile to promote the welfare of children,” Zairil said.
The children were later treated to light refreshments at a restaurant along the Straits Quay marina with their parents, teachers, headmasters and press members.
