1. Buying a property

As we all know, 2017 was not the best year for the property industry as there was an oversupply of property that caused prices to drop. However, everything is about to change this year as the property market will stabilise itself, thanks to the positive luck from Earth Dog. The Year of the Dog will also mean flourishing business for those with the earth element, such as property. So if you’re looking to buy a property, this year is the best time for you to do so, particularly around October as the earth related industries will start to do better.

Don’t

As the property market is slowly getting better, it’s best not to rush into sealing a deal in the nearest future. It’s wise to thoroughly survey the market and pick a property that suits your needs and wants before purchasing it. Most people make the mistake of buying a property before evaluating the pros and cons, only to regret their decision later.

2. Colour choices

According to the Chinese astrology, earth is the key element for this year and it plays an important role as the consolidating factor to bring greater harmony and prosperity. Therefore, the warm and welcoming pinkish-brown echoes the natural tones of wood and reflects a balanced state with the combination of fire and earth elements.

Other colours that can be considered are terracotta, light yellow, sandy and beige. So if you’re thinking of changing the wall colour of your house and giving it a fresh makeover, this is the time to do so.

Don’t

Now that we’ve told you the colours that will work this year, it’s time to inform you on the colours that are best avoided. With the element of earth going strong this year, colours like black, blue, white, grey and green should be avoided whenever possible.

3. Add water related elements to your house

Based on the ancient practice of Feng Shui, the metal element is expected to project negative energy, especially in the East area. Therefore, the best way to neutralise this negative energy is to add water elements to exhaust the metal element of the visiting negative star, and at the same time to strengthen the native wood element. There is a variety of water cures you can bring into your East area – fountains, mirrors, images of water as well as décor elements such as pillows, rugs and lampshades in flowing shapes.

Don’t

When it comes to interior design, less is more. Hence, when it comes to decorating your house, follow this rule of thumb and you should be all good. Cluttering your home with too many decorative items can backfire you this year. The Year of the Dog is all about going simple with less of extravagant ornaments, just like the characteristic of a canine. Opt for simple and elegant pieces to place in the house as it will elevate the look and feel of the space and give it an overall classy vibe.

4. Fix your entrance

The entrance to your house is paramount. It creates a good first impression and it invites people to come into your home. Therefore, ensuring your entrance is well-kept is crucial. When it is attractive and tidy, you will notice how the opportunities are “knocking” at your door. Make sure your door bell is working, so you can actually hear when the “opportunities” are looking for you. Besides that, the number on the door must also be visible so the positive energy can reach you without any difficulties.

Don’t

In the Year of the Dog, water represents two things – money and emotions. And in both cases, we are talking about the flow of it. Therefore, you must make sure that you don’t have any kind of water leakage in your house. If water leaks at your sink or through the ceiling, it means that your money and emotions are flowing out of the house. So you would need to fix that immediately as fixing your house also means fixing something in your own life.

5. Transform your bedroom

The ideal choice for setting the bedroom is to pick the farthest room from the main door of the house. This is done as it will induce a feeling of safety, stability and protection. But, it’s is difficult to achieve this as the design and landscape of your house is not entirely in your control. As such, if your bedroom is placed near to the main entrance, try placing a money tree plant in a corner of the room. We do this to prevent the stagnation of energy in that very corner.

Don’t

It’s best to set your bed as far as possible from the door and avoid a straight line position with it. Don’t place it under a window as it would lack the symbolic protection of a solid wall and it might cause a disturbed sleep, due to the energy that flows in and out of the window. Another important point to note is to never sleep with your feet facing towards the door. In the Chinese traditional culture, this is called the “death position” because the deceased are carried out with their feet facing the door.
