An Introduction to KL Sentral

KL Sentral

A transit-oriented development with Kuala Lumpur’s primary railway station as its core, Kuala Lumpur Sentral is known by many simply as KL Sentral. The project dates back to 1994, when the Malaysian government sought to enhance the city’s public transportation system via the transformation of Kuala Lumpur’s old Keretapi Tanah Melayu railway marshalling yard in Brickfields into a self-contained urban development that would house a modern transit hub.

The contract was awarded to a consortium led by Malaysian Resources Corp Bhd (MRCB), who appointed prominent architect Kishio Kurosawa and Associates to design the development’s master plan.

Spanning a total area of 290,000 sq m, the project comprises the transportation hub, office towers, hotels, condominiums and shopping malls. These components have been divided into 14 land parcels based on function; some have already been completed and are now in use, while the last few lots are due to be completed in 2015.
