SHAH ALAM: Additional solid waste transfer stations will be built in areas where necessary, said Housing and Local Government Minister Datuk Seri Chor Chee Heung.
He said the existence of the facility could reduce logistical costs, especially for garbage collection contractors and local authorities, whose areas of operation were far from garbage disposal sites.
He said this after visiting the RM77 million Solid Waste Transfer Station in Section 21, managed by Worldwide Holdings since January.
He said the saving in cost for a local authority to send 500 tonnes of garbage a day to the station was RM100,000 a month.
However, contractors and local authorities, whose areas of operation were in Klang or North Shah Alam, they can send garbage directly to the closest garbage disposal site in Jeram, Kuala Selangor, he said.
