KOTA BAHARU, Jan 16 (Bernama) -- Sara Timur Group of Companies has allocated RM500 million to RM600 million as overall cost to develop Bandar Baru Tunjong new township, here, its chairman, Datuk Dr Zawawi Ismail, said today.
He said the township, to be developed in seven phases, is slated for completion in five to seven years.
"We'll start the first phase with the construction of the Village Mall after land acquisition is completed by June," he told a media conference.
Earlier, Menteri Besar Datuk Nik Abdul Aziz Nik Nik Mat announced plans to develop Kota Baharu Sentral at Tunjong.
Dr Zawawi said green technology was the overall development concept of Bandar Baru Tunjong, with the mosque as the focus to "influence and provide value to surrounding activities.
"Among infrastructures to be developed are a public gallery, hotel, condominium and a convention centre that can accommodate 2,000 people at a time, he added.
Meanwhile, State Executive Councillor for economic planning, finance and welfare Datuk Husam Musa said RM19 million has been allocated for land acquisition to build the township on a 16.9 hectare site.
The the state government has suggested to Sara Timur to build a book village at the new township which would serve as a book collection centre in the state, he added.-BERNAMA
