| Palmville Resort Condominium, Bandar Sunway on first entry may calm one with the sight of cool fountains, greenery and swimming pool. Be not deluded. Repeated renovation blights the ear with pneumatic drills and sledge-hammers. No prior notice, no mufflers fitted to noisy machinery. Renovation lowers rentals and returnable values as owners and tenants pursued by noise move out preferring to live elsewhere. One international student worried his kitchen ceiling would descend to the floor - appalling given the high fees and premier rent he pays. An infant tottered to the exit with his father and escape. As I write, my ceiling vibrates to this relentless sound. Health and safety issues are clearly involved where owners rebuild their properties internally - carting piles of bricks to their apartments. Our students, comparatively, are quiet. But universities nearby are building new accommodation addressing the needs of this significant academic market. Renters/ purchasers are advised to check for a better lifestyle, or a guaranteed rent reduction or offer of alternative accommodation should their lives be afflicted by noise pollution. TQ. | |
