The people are respectful, helpful and kind. Foreigners from the world over have made this their home away from home.

The climate is tropical, which means it is always hot, with or without rain. The annual rainfall is between 2,000 - 2,500 millimeters. Temperatures range from 21-35 degrees Celsius. During the day, it is usually sunny, humid and hot. Most homes and other buildings are air conditioned.

The official language is Bahasa Malaysia, but English is widely spoken for trading and commerce. A variety of Chinese and Indian dialects can be heard within the communities.

Islam is the official religion and is observed by more than half of the Malaysians. Christian churches and both Hindu and Buddhist temples are available too and the constitution guarantees freedom of religion for those citizens that are not Muslim.

Food is cheap and Malaysians love to cook and eat. Dishes are influenced by the contributors of the various ethnic groups. Western food is given a local twist with different cooking techniques and the addition of local ingredients. Roti Canai, Char Kuey Teow, Chicken Rice and Nasi lemak stalls are located in busy centers. For the faint hearted expat, you will be able to access some Western fast food franchises.

Malaysian homes are modern and equipped with all you are used to out West, so you will not feel lost when retiring to your bungalow in Malaysia after a day of taking in the sights and sounds of this unspoilt paradise. Bungalows are available for rent on a short or long term basis and for purchase.
